Saugeen Paddlers Annual North Canoe Race

What a bunch of winners!

Big Canoe Project has been wanting to go to the Saugeen Paddlers’ annual North Canoe race for YEARS now and we finally made it to the 32nd iteration last June in Paisley. Thanks to our awesome crew (four of whom brigaded together two years ago) we paddled away with the overall win of the day. Congratulations to the Misfits 2.0, to the Saugeen Paddlers for another year of this amazing event and to everyone who paddles big canoes in Bruce and Grey (I had to see it with my own eyes to believe it!)

The first race is around buoys (we got second on this one!), the second race is a nightmare of manoeuvring as every boat tries to collect their coloured bobbers (and sabotage other teams’ at the same time), the third requires a whole different skill set: three paddlers are blindfolded and have to be guided through a course of buoys by one, non-paddling but all seeing, crew member.

Already looking forward to next time!

Relaxing after our big win.
